About Us

We want Jacobs Chapel United Methodist Church to be a place you can call your spiritual home in New Albany, IN.  Here you are accepted, valued and embraced in Christian community through our Sunday morning worship and various other growing and serving opportunities.

The mission of the church is to be a witness in the world for the call of God to genuine community in the Body of Christ. This goal is not achieved unless the door is open for all people and thus the call of the church is to a community which is open to all and closed off to none. The church must be committed to this mission.

Early histories of Jacobs Chapel vary as to where the church actually started. Some state that worship was held in the homes of the founders. While other show that services were conducted in a log schoolhouse 1/3 to 1/2 of a mile west of the site where the church was first built. The histories do generally agree on the date of 1835 for the organization of the church.

Are you wondering why this is called a “ministry”? A “ministry” is the act of serving others!  A “ministry” is also a person through which something is accomplished! Tracy Patton Ministries does just that!
